Capacity Planning
Capacity planning entails the organizational process of determining the feasibility of accepting new orders, considering available resources and existing work orders.
Capacity planning has been enabled by default in your account, to know more go to:
> Home > Manufacturing > Settings > Manufacturing Settings
1. Prerequisites
Before creating and using a Work Order, it is advised that you create the following first:
2. How Capacity Planning Works in BizCentric
In the manufacturing settings, the user needs to specify the duration in the “Capacity Planning For” field to plan forthcoming work orders. For instance, if the Capacity Planning For is set to 30 days and producing 1 finished good takes 5 days, then on the present date, the user can accept up to 6 work orders (30/5 = 6). The next work order can be initiated once the Workstation becomes available.
2.1 Create Work Order With Operations
The user is required to generate Work Orders with Operations for the system to monitor the Job Card timings corresponding to the Work Order.
Upon submission of the Work Order, the system generates the Job Card containing the time details of the available Workstation. If ‘Allow Overtime’ is deactivated in Manufacturing Settings, the system schedules the job according to the defined Workstation timings. Similarly, if “Allow Production on Holidays” is disabled, the system schedules the job exclusively on working days.
2.2 Workstation’s Production Capacity
Within the Workstation settings, users have the option to define the ‘Production Capacity’. This represents the maximum number of Operations that the system permits to be conducted simultaneously at that Workstation. For instance, if a particular Workstation can manage 10 operations concurrently, the user should input the ‘Production Capacity’ as 10.
2.3 Job Card With Timing
The system automatically generates Job Cards with timings for each operation, determined by the time needed to complete each operation and the availability of the Workstation. Users are responsible for setting the planned start date, after which the system calculates the planned end date based on the operation time.
2.4 Work Order Planned Start Date and End Date
Utilizing the planned start and end dates, users can assess the capacity of their workstations. Additionally, they can monitor the status of the work order through the Calendar feature.
To view calendar, goto:
> Work Order List > Calendar > Default
2.5 Capacity Planning Error
If the Production Capacity days are insufficient for completing the operation, the system will generate a capacity planning error. In such instances, users must either increase the value under “Production Capacity” days in the Manufacturing Settings or decrease the number of finished goods to align with the capacity of the Workstations.
