BOM Update Tool
From the BOM Update Tool, you have the capability to substitute a sub-assembly BOM and revise the costs of all parent BOMs.
This tool allows you to swap an existing BOM of a sub-assembly item linked to a parent BOM. Once initiated, the system will automatically update the new BOM across all parent BOMs where it was previously applied. However, prior to utilizing this function, it’s necessary to create a new BOM.
To use the BOM Update Tool, go to:
> Home > Manufacturing > Tools > BOM Update Tool
1. How to use the BOM Update Tool
Let’s consider a scenario to understand this better.
Suppose a company manufactures computers, Bill of Materials for the computer will look like this:
- Monitor
- Key Board
- Mouse
- CPU
Out of all the items above, CPU is assembled separately. Hence separate BOM will be created for the CPU. Following are the items from the BOM of CPU.
- 250 GB Hard Disk
- MotherBoard
- Processor
- SMTP
- DVD player
If more items need to be added, or existing items to be edited in the CPU BOM, then create new BOM for it.
- 950 GB Hard Disk
- MotherBoard
- Processor
- SMTP
- DVD player
Choose the Current BOM and New BOM for the sub-assembly Item:
To implement the update across all parent BOMs where the CPU is designated as a sub-assembly, utilize the Replace button.
Upon clicking the Replace button, the previous BOM of the CPU will be substituted with the new BOM in the BOM of the finished Item (Computer).
Does the BOM Replace Tool facilitate the replacement of exploded Items in the parent BOM?
No, exploded Items lacking their own BOMs cannot be replaced within the parent BOM using this tool. For instance, if the Item Monitor lacks a sub-assembly, it cannot be updated using this tool. To update exploded Items, one should either Cancel and Amend the current BOM or create a new BOM for the finished item.
Update BOM Cost
By utilizing the “Update latest price in all BOMs” button, you can revise the cost of all Bill of Materials according to the most recent purchase price, price list rate, or valuation rate of raw materials. This feature proves beneficial if your updated BOM incorporates materials with varying rates.
Upon clicking this button, the system initiates a background process to update the cost of all BOMs. This process operates through background jobs as it may require several minutes (depending on the quantity of BOMs) to update them all.
Furthermore, this functionality can be set to execute automatically on a daily basis. To enable this, you must activate the “Update BOM Cost Automatically” option in the Manufacturing Settings.
