Capacity Planning based on Work Order

Capacity Planning functionality helps you in tracking production jobs allocated on each Workstation.

Below are the steps to utilize the Capacity Planning feature in your BizCentric account.

  1. OperationsTo add operations, go to:

Manufacturing > Bill of Materials > Operations

  2. WorkstationAdd each Workstation in your ERPNext account from:

Manufacturing > Bill of Materials > Workstation

In the Workstation master, you can define which operations will be performed on it, what are the cost associated with it, and what are the working hours of that Workstation.

  3. Bill of Materials (BOM):In a BOM, with the list of raw material needed, for manufacturing, you can also list operation and workstations through which those raw materials will be processed.
  4. Work Order:On submission of Work Order, Timesheet for Operations. This helps you allocate production jobs on each Workstation, as well as you can update actual time taken for each Operation.

Error due to Capacity Planning

Question: When attempting to submit a Work Order, we encounter the following error message.

Answer: Please verify if you have entered the Working Hours in the Workstation master. If not, kindly update this information and then attempt to submit the Work Order.

Upon submission of a Work Order, Operations specified in the Bill of Materials (BOM) are assigned to the workstation. Each operation is expected to commence and conclude within the same day. If the system encounters difficulty scheduling an operation within a single day, it prompts you to split the Project so that smaller operations can be allocated within a day.

If you have already updated the working hours in the Workstation but continue to encounter this issue, it may be due to one of your operations requiring an excessive amount of time and cannot be completed within a day. In such cases, it is advisable to divide the operation into smaller tasks to ensure they can be allocated to the Workstation and completed within the same day.

Avoid Working Hours of Workstation

If you wish to bypass the aforementioned validation and permit scheduling of production jobs beyond the working hours of the Workstation, you can activate Overtime within the Manufacturing Settings.

Alternatively, if you prefer to completely deactivate the Capacity Planning feature, navigate to the Manufacturing Settings and select the “Disable Capacity Planning and Time Tracking” option.
