Managing Fractions in UOM

UoM stands for Unit of Measurement. Some examples of UoM include Numbers (Nos), Kilograms (Kgs), Liters, Meters, Boxes, Cartons, and more.

Certain UOMs cannot have fractional values. For instance, if an item is measured in Numbers (Nos), you cannot have 1.5 televisions, or 3.7 computer sets. The quantity for these items must be a whole number.

You can adjust whether a particular UoM allows values in decimal places. By default, decimal values are permitted for all UOMs. To restrict decimal values or fractions for a specific UoM, follow these steps.

UOM List

For UOM list, go to:

Stock > Setup > UoM

From the list of UOM, select UOM for which value in decimal place is to be restricted. Let’s assume that UoM is Nos.

Configure

In the UoM master, you’ll encounter a field labeled “Must be whole number.” Activate this option to prevent users from entering values with decimal places in the quantity field for items associated with this UOM.

Validation

When creating a transaction, if you input a fractional value for an item with the “Must be whole number” option checked for its UOM, you will receive an error message stating:
