Serial Number Naming

Serial numbers are unique codes assigned to each unit of an item. They help keep track of an item’s warranty and expiration details. Typically, high-value items such as machines, computers, and expensive equipment have serial numbers.

To make an item serialized, go to the Item master and check “Has Serial No.”

There are two methods to generate serial numbers in BizCentric.

1. Serializing Purchase Items

If you receive purchased items with serial numbers already assigned by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM), you can use the same serial numbers in BizCentric. When creating a Purchase Receipt, you should scan or type in the serial numbers for each item. After submitting the Purchase Receipt, the serial numbers will be created in the system based on the ones provided. If you’re using the OEM’s serial numbers, don’t mention any prefix for serialization in the Item master. In this case, leave the Prefix field blank.

If received items already has its Serial No. barcoded, you can simply scan that barcode for entering Serial No. in the Purchase Receipt.

On submission of Purchase Receipt or Stock entry for the serialized item, Serial Nos. will be auto generated.

Generated Serial numbers will be updated for each item.

2. Serializing Manufacturing Item

To serialize a manufacturing item, you can specify a series for generating serial numbers in the Item master. Using this series, the system will generate serial numbers for the item when its production entry is recorded.

2.1 Serial No. Series

When Item is set as serialized, it will allow you to mentioned Series for it.

2.2 Production Entry for Serialized Item

When you submit a production entry for a manufacturing item, the system will automatically create serial numbers according to the specified series in the Item master.
